Self-care is the proactive act of taking care of and honoring your body, mind, and spirit in a way that activates your best self. Self-care is about giving your body downtime to relax, replenish, and to restore your mood and energy levels. Self-care consists of five areas:
Physical (commit to regular exercise), psychological (own personal therapy), emotional (give yourself affirmations), professional (get regular supervision/continuing education), and spiritual (practice meditation).

Depression: Everyone occasionally feels blue or sad, but these feelings are usually fleeting and pass within a couple of days. When a person has a depressive disorder, it interferes with daily life, normal functioning, and causes pain for both the person with the disorder and those who care about him or her. Depression is a common but serious illness, and most who experience it need treatment to get better.

Heart Health

F – Face drooping. Is one side of the person’s face drooping or numb? When he or she smiles, is the smile uneven?

A – Arm weakness. Is the person experiencing weakness or numbness in one arm? Have the person raise both arms. Does one of the arms drift downward?

S – Speech difficulty. Is the person’s speech suddenly slurred or hard to understand? Is he or she unable to speak? Ask the person to repeat a simple sentence. Can he or she repeat it back?

T – Time to call 9-1-1. If any of these symptoms are present, dial 9-1-1 immediately. Check the time so you can report when the symptoms began.
